Samsung OM55N-DS: The Double-Sided 55-Inch Window Display Buyer's Guide
Samsung OM55N-DS double-sided window display — 3,000 nits per side, slim chassis, ceiling or floor mount. Real install guidance and named CrownTV deployments.

A standard storefront display has one job: face the sidewalk. But when you've got a corner location, a glass-enclosed showcase window, or a real-estate-style display where customers walk past on both sides, a single-sided panel is the wrong tool. The Samsung OM55N-DS solves that exact problem — two 55-inch high-brightness panels glued back-to-back into one slim chassis, both rated at 3,000 nits, both addressable independently.
CrownTV is a Samsung Authorized Reseller, and we've deployed the OM55N-DS in flagship retail (Victoria's Secret Fifth Avenue), real-estate showrooms, hospitality lobbies (Herman Miller's downtown showrooms), and corner-store retail where the back of the screen is just as visible as the front. This guide walks through what the panel actually is, who it's for, what makes it different from a pair of OM55Bs mounted back-to-back, and the install considerations that catch first-time buyers off guard.
What the OM55N-DS Is
The Samsung OM55N-DS is a 55-inch double-sided commercial display engineered for showcase and double-facing window applications. "DS" stands for double-sided. The N suffix indicates this is the slimmer second-generation chassis — depth dropped to under 3.5 inches, making it dramatically more practical for ceiling-suspended showcase windows than the original OMD-W generation.
Two LCD panels are bonded into a single unit with shared power and shared (or independent) signal input. You can run the same content on both faces (a generic store-hours card visible from inside and outside) or independent content per face (storefront promo facing the sidewalk, employee-facing dashboard facing inward).
Core Specs
- Screen size: 55" × 2 (front and rear)
- Resolution: Full HD (1920 × 1080) per side
- Brightness: 3,000 nits per side
- Contrast ratio: 4000:1 each side
- Orientation: Portrait and landscape
- Operating system: Samsung Tizen 6.5 with built-in SoC media player
- Connectivity: 2× HDMI per side, DisplayPort, USB, RJ45 Ethernet, Wi-Fi via dongle
- Operating duty cycle: 24/7
- Operating temperature: 32°F to 122°F (indoor only)
- Depth: Approx. 3.4" — slim chassis profile
- Weight: ~95 lbs
- Mounting: Ceiling (suspended), floor stand, or recessed window frame
- Anti-glare coating: Yes — both faces
Note: Samsung's OM55N-DS is FHD per side, not 4K — a deliberate trade-off because the panel is engineered for content viewed from 8-15 feet away (typical sidewalk-to-window distance), where FHD is visually indistinguishable from 4K. Buyers shopping for a 4K window panel single-side should look at the OM55B or OM75A.
Who Should Buy the OM55N-DS
The double-sided form factor solves three specific problems:
- Corner retail. Foot traffic approaches the storefront from two perpendicular directions. A single-sided panel only catches one. The OM55N-DS catches both with a ceiling-suspended mount in the corner.
- Showcase windows. A flagship retail window where customers walk past and the screen is visible from inside the store (employees, customers in checkout queue, etc.). One unit replaces two single-sided panels and one mounting structure.
- Real estate listings. Brokerage windows where the listings are shown to sidewalk traffic, and the agent inside also wants visibility for walk-ins. We've installed dozens of these.
Where the OM55N-DS is wrong: if the back face will be looking at a wall, a window film, or a back-of-house corridor where nobody walks. Buy two OM55Bs instead — cheaper, easier to service, lighter to mount.
Why Not Two OM55Bs Mounted Back-to-Back?
This is the right question and we get it constantly. The math:
| Spec | OM55N-DS (single unit) | 2× OM55B back-to-back |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution per side | FHD | 4K UHD |
| Combined depth | 3.4" | ~7-9" (panel + frame + air gap) |
| Mounting hardware | 1 mount, 1 chassis | 2 mounts, 2 chassis, custom bracket |
| Cabling | Single power, shared signal feed | 2× power runs, 2× signal runs |
| Weight | ~95 lbs | ~98 lbs (close, but two separate items) |
| Approx. street price | $6,500–$8,000 | $7,600–$9,600 (2× OM55B + bracket + extra mount labor) |
| Aesthetic | Single clean unit | Two visible chassis with seam |
The OM55N-DS wins on aesthetics, install simplicity, and cabling — almost always the deciding factors for showcase windows. The OM55B-pair wins on resolution per side (4K vs FHD) and serviceability (replace one panel, not the whole unit). For most storefront window applications viewed from 8+ feet, FHD is invisible.
Installation Realities
Ceiling Suspension Is Standard
The most common install for the OM55N-DS is ceiling-suspended in a storefront window. That means:
- Drop point in the ceiling structure rated for 100+ lbs
- Power and Ethernet run through the suspension tube — clean cable management
- Adjustment hardware so the panel can be leveled and rotated post-install
If the ceiling structure isn't rated for the load, you're looking at structural reinforcement work. That's a $1,500-$4,000 line item that most retail buyers don't budget for upfront. Get a structural engineer's sign-off before ordering the screen.
Power and Cable Routing
Single power feed, single signal feed (or dual signal if you're running independent content per side). The chassis routes everything through one entry point, typically at the top for ceiling mounts or the bottom for floor mounts. Plan a 110V outlet within 8 feet of the suspension point.
Heat Management
Two LCDs in one chassis means twice the heat output of a single OM55B. The chassis includes active cooling, but you need 8-12 inches of air clearance around the unit. Avoid recessing the panel into a sealed drop-ceiling box — we've replaced units that triggered thermal protection because the install crew tried to flush-mount it into a custom millwork frame with no airflow.
Anti-Glare and Window Film
The OM55N-DS has anti-glare coating on both faces, which solves the inside-glass reflection problem. If the storefront has an exterior glass film, do a moiré test with a sample panel before committing — we've watched expensive mistakes here.

Content Management for Two Faces
The OM55N-DS is two displays from a content perspective. The CrownTV Dashboard treats each face as an independent screen — you can:
- Run identical content on both faces (a single content schedule, doubled output)
- Run different content per face (sidewalk-facing promotions out front, employee-facing daily KPI dashboard inside)
- Run synchronized different content (a "you" message on the outside face, a "thank you" message on the inside face — with both timed to the same playlist clock)
The Dashboard you control schedules each face independently or together. This is one of the use cases where centralized CMS earns its keep — managing the inside/outside content split for 20 stores by hand from a USB stick is a part-time job nobody wants.
OM55N-DS vs OM55B vs OM75A: Quick Decision Guide
| Use case | Best panel |
|---|---|
| Standard storefront window, sidewalk-facing only | OM55B |
| Showcase window visible from both sides | OM55N-DS |
| Hero panel for a flagship storefront, single-sided | OM75A |
| Drive-thru, gas station, or full outdoor | OH55A-S |
Real CrownTV Deployments Running OM55N-DS
- Victoria's Secret Fifth Avenue. A flagship Manhattan storefront where the windows are visible from sidewalk traffic and from the second-floor mezzanine inside. Double-sided panels solve both audiences from one mount.
- Herman Miller showrooms. Furniture showrooms where the same screen content needs to engage walk-up traffic and reception-area walk-ins simultaneously.
- Real estate brokerages. Multiple deployments where listings rotate on the sidewalk-facing side, while the inside-facing side runs broker-controlled deal flow and KPI dashboards.
- Janie and Jack corner-store flagships. Mall and street-corner locations where foot traffic approaches from two perpendicular directions; the OM55N-DS catches both with one ceiling-suspended unit.
- Pressed Juicery flagship corners. Corner-location storefronts where one side faces the main avenue and the other faces a secondary side street.
Content Patterns That Earn the Double-Sided Form Factor
The OM55N-DS earns its premium when the content strategy actually uses both faces. Three patterns we see work in production:
- Mirrored content (both faces show identical creative). The simplest pattern. One CMS schedule, doubled output. Best for general brand promotion and seasonal campaigns where the same message works for both audiences.
- Inside-vs-outside content split. Sidewalk-facing side shows storefront promotional content. Interior-facing side shows wayfinding, employee KPIs, daily-target dashboards, or check-in messaging for customers in queue. Two distinct content schedules from one CMS.
- Synchronized time-paired content. Both faces run different content but timed to a shared playlist clock — outside face shows "welcome" messaging, inside face shows "thank you" messaging, both timed to the same 30-second loop. More design effort, more impact.
For showcase windows where the back of the screen is just looking at a back wall, two OM55B units back-to-back is a better answer than the OM55N-DS — see the OM55B guide.
Common Misconceptions About Double-Sided Window Displays
- "It's just two screens glued together." Mostly true on the panel side, but the chassis is engineered as a single thermal and structural unit. Two off-the-shelf 55" panels mounted back-to-back will fight each other on cooling and won't deliver the same slim form factor.
- "FHD looks bad next to 4K." Not at typical sidewalk-to-window viewing distances of 8-15 feet. Pixel structure isn't visible at that distance on a 55" panel. Save the 4K specification for the OM55B or OM75A where viewing distance is closer.
- "It's twice as expensive as one OM55B." Closer to 1.7-2.0× depending on volume. Add the cost of a second mount and second cable run on the back-to-back approach and the gap closes further.
- "It needs a special CMS." No — the CrownTV Dashboard treats each face as an independent screen, just like any pair of standard panels. No custom integration required.
The throughline is the same: locations where two audiences view the same physical glass from different sides, and the buyer wants one chassis instead of two.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the OM55N-DS rated for outdoor use?
No. The OM55N-DS is an indoor-only window display. It is not IP-rated and should not be exposed to direct rain, snow, or freezing temperatures. For outdoor or semi-outdoor applications, choose the Samsung OH55A-S or OH-series outdoor line.
Why is the OM55N-DS only Full HD per side and not 4K?
Storefront window content is viewed from 8-15 feet on average. At that distance, FHD and 4K are visually indistinguishable on a 55" panel. Samsung made the engineering trade-off to keep the chassis slim and the heat output manageable for ceiling-suspended showcase mounts. If 4K resolution per side is non-negotiable, mount two OM55B units back-to-back instead.
Can I run different content on each side?
Yes. Each face has its own signal input and is treated as an independent display by the CrownTV Dashboard or any Tizen-compatible CMS. Common pattern: outward-facing face shows storefront promotions, inward-facing face shows interior wayfinding or employee KPIs.
How heavy is the OM55N-DS, and what kind of ceiling can hold it?
~95 lbs total. Standard drop ceilings won't hold this load — the suspension point must be tied into structural framing rated for at least 200 lbs (4× safety factor). For most retail buildouts, that means a steel beam or a poured concrete slab. Get structural sign-off before ordering.
Does the OM55N-DS need separate media players per face?
It can run with a single Tizen SoC handling both faces, but for multi-store CMS unification we typically pair it with a CrownTV media player per face. The media player powers the Dashboard you control and keeps the content delivery decoupled from panel firmware.
How do I clean the OM55N-DS without damaging the anti-glare coating?
Microfiber cloth, no chemical cleaners, no paper towels. Anti-glare coatings are sensitive to ammonia and abrasive surfaces. Quarterly cleaning is plenty for indoor showcase windows — more often if the storefront is on a high-traffic urban street.
What's the warranty on the OM55N-DS?
Samsung's standard 3-year commercial warranty, parts and labor. CrownTV bundles include the warranty plus a free one-month CMS subscription, free shipping, and a price-match guarantee.
Can I install the OM55N-DS in portrait orientation?
Yes. The unit is rated for both portrait and landscape, on both faces. Portrait is the more common showcase configuration — narrower footprint, taller content area, better fit for vertical storefront windows.
What happens if one face fails and the other still works?
Samsung will service the unit under warranty — typically that means a replacement chassis rather than a panel-level repair, because the bonded construction makes single-side replacement impractical in the field. CrownTV stocks loaner units to keep your storefront running while service is in flight.
Is the OM55N-DS suitable for a touchscreen window display?
No — the OM55N-DS isn't a touch panel. For interactive window displays, we deploy a different Samsung model with capacitive overlay or a dedicated through-glass touch system. Reach out for a custom configuration.
